Luv' biography - Chapter X

2005 - 2012: Back In Luv'

In late 2004, as the members of Luv' were about to reconcile, Patty Brard made awful comments about José Hoebee on Robert Jensen's late-night talk show. The efforts to plan a comeback were reduced to nothing. The fans were pessimistic about the chance of seeing the group performing again.

But a miracle happened at José's 51st birthday on March 29, 2005. Patty went to Lommel, Belgium where José lived with her husband Will. At that time, the diva worked on her reality show "Pat's Life". For the purpose of this TV program, she met people who played an important role in her existence (including record producer Hans van Hemert, ex-lover Pepe Lienhard (a famous Swiss bandleader) and José). The ladies worked out their problems and finally José accepted Patty's apologies in front of the camera.

A few days later, the Luv' singers caused a sensation when they gave a surprise performance at the 60th birthday and 40th business anniversary of their former Pygmalion Hans van Hemert. This unique show made the headlines. The trio was even on the front page of "De Telegraaf" (Holland's most popular daily newspaper) on April 8th, 2005.  Nothing could stop the long-awaited comeback of Luv'.

The following months, Patty and José were busy with their own projects.

In September 2005, Dutch independent record label WVS Music released Miss Hoebee's first CD compilation entitled "Alle Hits & Unieke Bonustracks". This album featured her solo hits (including "I Will Follow Him" and "Secret Love"), B-sides and bonus songs (like her very first recording "Elongi" performed with her sisters in 1976 and the medley "Don't Give Up / Don't Give Up On Us", a previously unreleased track sung with Piet Souer). The CD release party took place during her fan club meeting in Oirschot, NL. One of the highlights of this event was the presence of Patty

WVS boss Willem van Schijndel, José and Flemish group "Swoop" at the singer's CD release party and fan club meeting (2005)

In late 2005, Miss Brard hosted "Lieve Patty", a reality program on RTL 5 in which she tried to solve the love problems of desperate candidates. In addition to her activities on television, the tabloid press was also interested in her privacy. After her break-up with René Muthert, the larger than life entertainer had an affair with Pop singer Derick (with whom she recorded "That's Life", the theme song of her show "Pat's Life") and the above-mentioned Pepe Lienhard (their short-lived relationship was big news in Switzerland). But in September 2005, Patty met Dutch architect Antoine van de Vijver. It was love at first sight and Antoine brought her stability. Moreover, in February 2006, she scored a Dutch Top 10 hit with "Ik Wil Knallen", a Carnival duet with Ome Henk

In the meantime, Marga Scheide started a new life three years after the death of her partner Jacques Zwart. She fell in love with Michiel Gunning. Celebrity gossip magazines covered this good news.

April 2006 saw the official start of Luv's comeback.

RTL 5 aired "Back In Luv" a reality program about the reunion. The show was later broadcast on VTM in Belgium.

Universal Music released the budget-priced compilation "Het Mooiste van Luv" and "Completely in Luv" (a box set of four albums recorded by the group during their heyday in the late 1970s and early 1980s as well as bonus tracks and remixes).

A DVD (also entitled "Back In Luv") came out simultaneously and included the best TV performances from Luv's glory years. The ladies promoted their activities on television ("Albert", "RTL Boulevard", "Shownieuws", "Life & Cooking", "TROS Muziekfeest", "Tien Om Te Zien"...) and in the press (Tros Kompas, Televizier, Beau Monde, Veronica Magazine, Weekend, Party, Story...).

On April 29th, 2006, Luv' performed at the Museum Square in Amsterdam for Queen's day (Koninginnedag) with other super acts (Jamie Cullum, Tiësto, Anouk, Di-rect, Clouseau...).

A meet'n greet afternoon organised by the group's fan club was held on May 20th at Bar Arc in Amsterdam. It was a good opportunity for the public to meet their idols.  Pop star Gerard Joling was present.

On May 26th, 27th and 28th 2006, the three singers and Bobby Farrell (of Boney M.) made a guest appearance on the mega shows of De Toppers (a group formed by Gordon, René Froger and Gerard Jolingat the Amsterdam ArenA. The girls made a funny entrance in camp and extravagant costumes on glittery rollators. They sang a medley of their greatest hits (Casanova, Trojan Horse, U.O.Me and You're the Greatest Lover). The feedback about these concerts was so positive that Luv' decided to tour Holland and Belgium extensively until 2007. Then, the trio performed sporadically until 2011.

In addition to her hectic schedule with Luv'Marga Scheide took part in SBS 6 celebrity figure skating competition "Sterren Dansen op Het Ijs" in August and September 2006.

In January 2007, Patty participated in the same program and her performance was a highly covered media event. It even relaunched her career on television. She signed a contract with SBS and until 2011 she was involved in several high-rated shows of the channel ("Shownieuws", "De Nieuwe Uri Geller", "Wie Ben Ik?", "K2 zoekt K3" and "Coming to Holland: Prins zoekt vrouw"). The Prima Donna was also active in the music business. She scored three solo Carnival hits: "Het Leven Is Een Feest" (#8 on the Single Top 100 in 2010), "Waarom Zou Drinken Een Zonde Zijn" (#21 on the Single Top 100 in 2011), "Bunga Bunga" (#64 on the Single Top 100 in 2011). The Indo Dutch entertainer also recorded a full-length album called "Patty's Party Vol.1" (which included the above-mentioned songs and peaked at #64 on the Album Top 100).

In 2009, José and ex-BZN singer Anny Schilder joined forces to form a duo. They recorded a cover version of a Phil Spector classic hit "Be My Baby" (originally performed by The Ronettes in 1963). They sang in festivals through the Netherlands. Their collaboration ended in 2010 as Anny launched another duo with her former BZN mate Jan Keizer

In 2011, José's dream came true when she had the opportunity to re-record her signature hit "I Will Follow Him" with Peggy March who originally performed it in 1963. This duet appeared on Peggy's album "Always and Forever".

In May 2011, Patty's deal with SBS was not extended and Miss Brard was dismissed. Shortly after that, the "enfant terrible" of Luv' appeared on RTL 4's reality show "Diva's Draaien Door" with Patricia Paay and Tatjana Simic. The program was so successful that the divas planned to record a CD together and to go on stage.

On March 12th, 2012 Marga Scheide confirmed the definitive break-up of the group on NOS/Radio 1 as Patty Brard's activities with "De Diva's" overshadowed Luv'. The ladies took this decision without anger. They gave their final live performance on August 11th, 2012 at the Dutch Valley Festival in Spaarnwoude. This last show was very emotional because it brought Luv's story to a close. Moreover, it was a hard moment for José as her husband Will Hoebee passed away on June 10th, 2012.
